2014 ATL WEBFEST Official Selections

2nd Annual Digital Entertainment Festival at Georgia Tech Takes Place
October 24-26, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA, Georgia (Tuesday, September 23, 2014) — ATL WEBFEST at Georgia Tech announced the official selections of web series to be screened at the 2nd annual event in Atlanta, GA on October 24-26, 2014.

Co-hosted with the Georgia Tech School of Literature, Media, and Communication, ATL WEBFEST (AWF) continues to recognize the outstanding achievement of creatives, technologists, and business people in the digital entertainment industry.

Over the past two years, the popularity of web series has grown in notoriety and acclaim with the likes of Netflix’s House of Cards and Orange is the New Black taking home Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. Not to mention the independent successes of, Awkward Black Girl or crowdfunding hit, Video Game High School, has caught the attention of fans, brands, and studio executives.

“We’ve got some awesome submissions that really represent the talent in the web series space,” said Jasmin Goodman, ATL WEBFEST Co-Founder and Creative Director. “The quality of most of our entries rival that of traditional film and TV festivals,”

In addition to the opening night, workshops, panels, and the highly anticipated AWF Awards Ceremony, creators can look forward to extra bragging rights by participating in the AWF Viewer’s Choice. Official selections have until October 22 to receive votes from their peers to earn the lauded title.

“It’s the wild west of web series out there. We made ‘One Hit Die‘ because we we loved the idea,” said Spencer Estabrooks, Creator of ‘One Hit Series’ and recipient of the 2013 AWF Production Grant. “It soon became apparent that it’s hard to get noticed in the ocean that is the internet. ATL WEBFEST allowed us to connect with other Web Series producers, and promote ourselves. It’s great to see the amazing creativity that’s going on in the Webseries World.”

Dedicated to educating and connecting creatives, every Tuesday at 9 pm/EST the festival hosts #AWFChat to discuss crowdfunding, content creation, and more. Tonight, Tuesday, September 23, you can join Jeff Luppino-Esposito, Writer, Director, and Web Producer for Nickelodeon, and a special tweet chat on Sunday, September 28 with Lena Waithe, producer of “Dear White People,” who recently signed a writing deal with BET.

“Our global presence has definitely expanded. Although we’re committed to providing funding, training and distribution opportunities to web producers in the southeast, we’ve received submissions from the UK, Spain, Mexico and Australia,” Goodman explained.

Early Bird festival passes are available now. Tickets range from $10-$35 with special rates for student attendees. Late submissions for web series ends on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.
