Comcast Takes on YouTube

Comcast has decided to reach out to niche audiences through it’s set-top boxes and will be releasing a streaming service later this year. This may be a way to separate the men from the boys as Comcast attempts to lure content creators onto its app and away from YouTube.
This YouTube competitor will focus more on professionally-produced and serialized content, a more recent step in YouTube’s development. If Comcast is able to master this position in consumer’s eyes, serious content creators may have found their future platform. The new online video platform will be running on Comcast’s X1 box, which have been gradually entering markets. It will be available for select users before opening up to the public. Opportunities for more personal and targeted advertising may also be on the way as Comcast flirts with this idea of delivering online videos through set-top boxes.
