Historic Downsizing for Microsoft
Written by: Catherine Satcher
Last month Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced their plan to cut 18,000 jobs in the upcoming months. This downsizing will be the largest in the company’s history. As many as 12,500 of the layoffs will come from eliminating overlaps that came with acquiring the Nokia unit in April.
Head of Microsoft’s Xbox division and Microsoft Studios, Phil Spencer, also announced that the Entertainment Studios will be shutting down as well. They have decided to continue working on programs that are currently in production including the documentary series Signal to Noise and Halo extensions, Halo: Nightfall and the Halo TV series.
Xbox Entertainment Studios app partnerships will be unaffected by the change. Xbox Originals debuted last month with their reality series Every Street United, featuring legendary soccer players, Thierry Henry and Edgar Davids, on their mission to unveil the world’s toughest soccer players.
